Our Picks for 2/3 - 2/11: Art Walk, Cash'd Out, Slightly Stoopid and more

First Friday Art Walk
friday 5
After taking January off, the First Friday Art Walk is back on with all the usual suspects (downtown, Old Mill, Northwest Crossing and beyond) showing off local, regional and national artists. Hit our Local Arts listings for a complete gallery guide.

Cash'd Out

friday 5
Tribute bands can sometimes wander into dangerously corny territory, but that doesn't seem to be the case with this San Diego-based Johnny Cash cover band. Their covers of mostly early Cash numbers (including all the classics, of course) are eerily on target - down to the twang of the guitar and the smoothly deep vocals that made Cash an American legend. Larry and His Flask open. $12/door. All ages. 9pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.
After Hours Art Party
friday 6
After doing the walk of art (our second favorite walk, behind the walk of life, of course), you can keep your creative appreciation muscles flexed by hitting up the Silver Moon where you'll see live painting from Erik Hoogen and music from Mindscape. $5. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Winter Brew Tastival
friday-saturday 5-6
Even though Oregon is possibly the hoppiest place on Earth, we also like our malty winter beers, which is why damn near every brewery makes one. Three Creeks is celebrating the state's winter brews with this Tastival, featuring winter beers from all over the state, including - of course - some samples of Three Creek's own creations. Features Brent Alan and His Funky Friends on Friday night at 8pm. Three Creeks Brewing Co., 721 Desperado Ct.
DJ Wicked
saturday 6
There are DJs and then there are turntablists. DJ Wicked is the latter - well, he's a DJ, too, but he can rip it up on the wheels of steel, and is one the Northwest's premier scratchers. Longtime club goers will remember Wicked from his days as a frequent guest DJ at the Grove, providing plenty of party memories.. 10pm. Bendistillery Martini Bar, 850 NW Brooks St.
Hoodoo Winter Carnival
saturday 6
Sometimes we might overlook Central Oregon's other ski resort, by which we mean Hoodoo, of course. But if anyone needs a reminder of what the resort has to offer, this day-long carnival features a little something for all fun-loving people like face painting, ax throwing, frisbee golf, bonfire, snow sculptures, pie eating contest and more. Did you happen to notice "ax throwing" and "pie eating?" There's also a torchlight ski and board and fireworks, not to mention music from Blackstrap. Feb 6. Hoodoo Ski Area, 20 Highway 20.
Lava City Roller Dolls Skate-a-Thon
saturday 6
The Roller Dolls are looking to fund their upcoming season and also want to lend some help to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which is why the gals are skating 26.2 miles (which is a marathon, peeps). Visit www.lavacityrollerdolls.com for more details. 4pm. Central Oregon Indoor Sports Center, 20795 High Desert Ln.
Rise Up & Rebuild - Haiti Benefit Show
sunday 7
Check out the Sound page for more on this benefit show. Artists include Person People, Larry and His Flask, The Lakes, Leif James & The Struggle, Haylee & Amanda, with slam poetry by Manifestdestiny. $5. Presented by Rise Up International. 4pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Slightly Stoopid, The Aggrolites

wednesday 10
Sometimes bands return to Bend time and time again, and Slightly Stoopid seems to be one of those. But this is great because the Southern California reggae and punk band plays excellent, mostly laid-back sounds that seem to have caught on here, as well as the rest of the country, where they've become quite huge. $20/adv at bendticket.com and $25/door. 9pm. Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.
Greg Mortenson
thursday 11
If you're plugged into the literary community, you probably know that Mortenson, the author of Three Cups of Tea, is coming to town. You also know that his appearance at Bend High is sold out. BUT you can get in on the event by purchasing a ticket to see the live video feed of the reading and presentation in the Bend High Commons. $10. 541-383-7575. 7pm-9pm. Bend High School, 230 NE 6th St.
