What to do in Central Oregon this week.

Richard Louv

wednesday 12

Are you thinking that maybe those kids of yours are spending too much time on the interwebs and Twitter machine and not enough time bounding across mountain streams and gazing upon majestic fields of grain? If so, check out this appearance by Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods, who discusses saving children from nature-deficit disorder. $10. Info: 541-383-7575. 6:30pm Summit High School Auditorium, 2855 NW Clearwater Dr.

Mary Sojourner Book Release

thursday 13

Source contributor Mary Sojourner now has two books out and both of them have to do with gambling. At this event, she'll read from and sign both her novel, Going Through Ghosts, and the non-fiction She Bets Her Life, which is about problem gambling amongst women. 6:30pm. Between the Covers, 645 NW Delaware Ave.

The Parental Advisory Tour: Nashville Pussy and Green Jelly

thursday 13

The trend for wacky band names doesn't stop with the two headliners - there's also Psychostick and High Desert Hooligans on the bill. Nashville Pussy is an Atlanta-based gritty rock band that adds some southern spices to a largely punk and rockabilly sound while Green Jelly, as some will remember, was popular in the mid 1990s for their goofball metal tunes and outrageous costumes. $17/adv, $20/door. All ages. Tickets at Bendticket.com, Ranch Records, TicketsWest.com (800-992-8499). 8pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

The Sprout Film Festival

friday 14

Back to the Tower once again, this touring film festival features people with developmental disabilities as subjects and performers by showcasing films that feature their work. Two shows. 11:30am - $6. 7:30pm - $10. 11:30am. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Larry and His Flask, Ether Circus, Grant Sabin, Mosley Wotta

friday 14

What makes this different from the maybe dozen Larry and His Flask shows we've had in Bend in the past year? This one is freakin' all ages and the kids in Central Oregon are going to flip out harder than the dude on the cover of this paper when they get inside for this one. The opening roster, which includes Portland's Ether Circus and hip-hop king Mosely Wotta, only sweetens the deal. 8pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave. $8.

Peppino D'Agostino

friday 14

Guitar geeks rejoice! One of your own is coming to town in the form of wildly skilled Peppino D'Agostino, an Italian born guitarist who's won some awards for his acoustic-ripping mastery. Tickets available at www.bendticket.com. 8pm. Old Stone Church, 157 NW Franklin Ave.

Mai CD Release Party

friday 14

Mai - also known as Matthew Hyman - has long been the guitarist and vocalist for Moon Mountain Ramblers, but now he's going solo with the recent release of his album, Restless. The 12-track disc features the same rootsy approach Mai features when with the Ramblers, but here, things are a bit barer, letting us into the emotion behind his tunes. As a whole, the record is a piece of excellent Americana, complete with honky tonk, bluegrass and blues influences. At this show, expect to see some additional ramblers get on stage with him. $5. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co.,
24 NW Greenwood Ave.

US Bank Pole, Pedal, Paddle

saturday 15

Do you need an explanation on this one? Didn't think so, but if you do, the Culture and Outdoor sections have it completely covered for you. Finishes at Les Schwab Amphitheater, 344 SW Shevlin-Hixon Dr.

Temple of Hip Hop

saturday 16

Happy hip-hop appreciation week everyone! What? You didn't know about this celebration of beats and rhymes? Then get down to the Martini bar where local MCs Mr. Gone, Basssghost, Sorski will be celebrating in style. $2 suggested donation. 9pm. Bendistillery Martini Bar, 850 NW Brooks St.

North American Pond Skimming Championships

sunday 16

Sadly, some six months after it began, ski season has come to an end. But don't get too blue about it, because this also means that its time for Pond Skimming in which zany people in zany costumes try to ski over sizeable piece of water - many of them unsuccessfully. 11am. Mt. Bachelor.

Charlie Hunter Trio

monday 17

Hunter, a master of blues, jazz and funk guitar arrives in town with his trio for a show that will almost certainly require dancing shoes and perhaps a dancing hat. He is touring in support of his new record, which is hilariously titled Gentlemen, I Neglected to Inform You, You Will Not Be Getting Paid. The Adam Carlson Trio opens. $17/adv, $20/door. All ages. Tickets at Bendticket.com, Ranch Records, TicketsWest.com (800-992-8499). 7:15pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside

wednesday 19

The first thing you'll notice about Portland's Sallie Ford and her band is that they sound super old timey. As in Billie Holiday sort of old timey. Sure, it sounds a bit weird, but it's actually wickedly cool, making Ford one of the most talked-about young Oregon musicians on the circuit today. Free, all ages. 7pm. McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St.
