Emily's Army

wednesday 22

What do you do when your dad is Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day and you like to play the drums? Well, you start up a poppy punk rock band, get your dad to produce your record, which you'll name Don't Be A Dick. But here's the thing - the album is actually incredibly solid, especially when you consider these kids are still in high school. Madhappy Lounge, 850 NW Brooks St.

Who knows what you'll have to do to win the Oyster Off Road Adventure Race? Run (and bike) around town with your race partner, gather clues and move on to the next adventure. The Bite of Bend

saturday-sunday 25-26

Here in the Source offices, we've been fasting rigorously to prepare ourselves for the outlandish amount of food we're going to indulge in at this weekend's Bite of Bend Festival. There's more than just food here. There's also a chef competition, a beer run (it's exactly what it sounds like), a bartender's challenge and all sorts of activities for the kids. If you want to know more, you'll find plenty more info in the guide at the center of this issue. Downtown Bend. Saturday: 11am - 10pm. Sunday: 11am - 7pm.

Dido and Aeneas

tuesday 28

Would all the opera fans in the house please raise the roof? Woot woot! When we say "opera"... OK, so hyping an operatic performance as one would might promote a hip-hop show doesn't quite work, but it would do you good to get out to this night of high culture when the Portland Boroque Orchestra presents this classic opera about a royal marriage that turns tragic. If you have a pair of opera glasses you've been dying to use for their intended purpose, this is probably the time to get them out of storage. $15-$35 at towertheatre.org. 7:30pm. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Amnesty International presents: Crossing Midnight

thursday 30

This documentary is presented by Amnesty International and tells the story of one million Burmese refugees on the run through the jungles of Eastern Burma as they flee from a brutal dictatorship. With all the fun things going on this week, you owe it to yourself to learn about an important yet mostly brushed-under-the-rug segment of history. 6pm. Thursday, Jun 30. East Bend Public Library, 62080 Dean Swift Rd.
