Sisters Folk Festival

Fuddy Meers

We've learned something about local theater - if Derek Sitter is involved with a production, you can pretty much count on it being a little on the crazy side. Now, Sitter is directing Fuddy Meers, a zany comedy written by David Lindsay-Abaire, which he told us is the theatrical equivalent of Pulp Fiction. We're going to hold him to that. Head down to the Cascades Theatrical Company's Greenwood Playhouse to see if he's right. Every year, we write something explaining why Oktoberfest is held in September, so we're going to spare you the repetition and just let you know that the first of these German celebrations is hitting Bend on Saturday. 22nd Annual Great Drake Park Duck Race

You purchase a duck (or many, many ducks) for $5 and then your duck, along with the ducks of a few thousand other people, is dropped into the Deschutes River and the first one to the finish line wins. This popular charity event, put on by Rotary International, benefits a bevy of local nonprofit organizations. But there are also prizes to be won, including a $20,000 voucher to Roberson Ford. The Boise band is an insanely talented trio that's been turning heads in the indie rock world and are nice enough to stop off in Bend, along with San Francisco power pop trio Tartufi, on their way to the big ol' Music Fest Northwest festival over in Portland. $5. 8:30pm.
