With spring just around the corner, the winter theater season comes to a close, making way for a new season of plays and musicals to get you in touch with your cultural side.

The Rainmaker

2^nd Street Theater presents a warm and romantic comedy that celebrates love, resiliency and the magic of belief in something beyond oneself. When an intense drought threatens the town, Bill Starbuck, professional rainmaker, enters the lives of Lizzy and her family. The play, directed by Susan Benson, runs through Sunday, March 13. Aida

Mtn. View High School Theater and Music departments' take on Aida, a timeless love story, featuring more than 70 students. Based on the Giuseppe Verdi opera of the same name, Aida takes the basic story and transforms it into a musical in two acts. The modern version retells the tragic romance of a slave-princess named Aida and the Egyptian prince Radames. Egypt has enslaved Nubia and prince Radames is engaged to the fashionable Amneris, but when Nubian princess Aida comes to the palace as a slave, love turns the castle upside down. Elton John composed the love story's music and the Tim Rice wrote the lyrics. The show runs March 11-13 and March 15-17 at 7:30pm. $10. Mt. View High School, 2755 NE 27th St.

Tuesdays with Morrie

Cascades Theatrical Company presents its next play, Mitch Albom's Tuesdays with Morrie. The play tells the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom and Morrie Schwartz. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch, a career-driven journalist, catches Morrie, his former college professor, on a television news program and learns Morrie has Lou Gehrig's disease. Mitch begins visiting Morrie weekly, and it turns into a last class in the meaning of life. Sandy Silver directs, and the play stars Ed Mierjeski as Morrie, and Bruce Moon as Mitch.
