We've got our own goat hook up around here through Sand Lily Goat Farm. The farm is located just south of town and owned by Patricia Moore and her partner Cheryl Powers, who named the farm after the sand lilies that pop out of the ground each spring on their 80-acre property.
The two women built the farm from the ground up and now have somewhere between 100 and 200 goats on their at any time. Moore has written a cookbook, too, called “Getting Your Goat the Gourmet Guide.” You can meet her at the June Meet Your Farmer dinner. See our little sider about it on this page.Sand Lily produces goat ravioli, bratwurst, breakfast sausage, loin chops, ribs, osso bucco, shanks, stew meat and ground goat.
The farm now provides goat meat to Bend restaurants including Chow and Local Slice, which is Chow’s new pizza venture in the Brookswood Meadow Plaza. You can get an almost all-goat slice there with Sand Lily goat meat and local goat cheese.
Sand Lily sets up shop on Wednesdays at the downtown Farmers Market and on Saturdays at Northwest Crossing. The meat is also available at Melvin’s in Sisters, Newport Market, Primal Cuts on Galveston Avenue, Agricultural Connections or Central Oregon Locavore.
