Black Prairie and Swansea
With the Decembrists announcing a duel European and U.S. tour set for January, it's safe to assume that Black Prairie founders, Chris Funk (dobro) and Nate Query (bass) and other crossover band members Jenny Conlee (accordion) John Moenwill (drums), will be busy on stage with Colin Meloy for a good stretch. However, before they leave Portland for tour, bluegrass-influenced Black Prairie will perform a much more intimate set than the Decembrist-sized arenas at the Doug Fir with friends and fellow Portland band Swansea who are often compared to LCD Soundsystem, St. Vincent and Santigold. 9 pm. John Oliver
After filling in as the host of "The Daily Show" while Jon Stewart worked on his directorial debut Rosewater, John Oliver was picked up as one of the most intelligent and charismatic comedy hosts around, securing himself a weekly gig on HBO. Now touring his stand-up comedy, Oliver's British smirk and pointed political commentary will have you rolling on the floor and rethinking traditional media's presentation of the big issues. 8 pm. Fleetwood Mac
Money, drugs, free flowing sexual freedom and one of the greatest selling albums in music history, Fleetwood Mac embodied late '70s southern California better than anyone. Although Stevie Nicks' voice isn't as dynamic and textured as it was back then, the chemistry (read: creative friction) between Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham still seems to exist and the sentimental value of a reunion tour fills the gaps that their musical prowess no longer can. 8 pm.
