Hot Tuna
Spun out from the propellers of Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna has been singing the blues since the late 1960s and, though perhaps with a few more pounds on the waistline and fewer hairs on the head, is still going strong. Loyal fans since the first strum of Jorma Kaukonen's guitar, to those just discovering the far-out melodies of this rock band will enjoy 40-year-old classics to songs off the band's most recent 2011 album, "Steady as She Goes." 8 pm. Spamalot
The Knights Who Say Ni, a Trojan Rabbit, Holy Hand Grenades and the The Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog: if this list doesn't scream "Broadway Musical," then what does? This musical adaptation of the 1975 film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, brings all the movie's characters into real time. The gang's all here: King Arthur of Britain, Sir Lancelot the Homicidally Brave, Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir-Lancelot, Sir Galahad the Dashingly Handsome and Sir Bedevere the Strangely Flatulent. 8 pm. The Motherf***er with the Hat
Never has a play title so terrified a publicity team (nor the censors—when the play was nominated for six Tony Awards in 2011 and producers made it through the live broadcast with only a handful of bleeps and cut-aways). Jackie, a recovering addict fresh from jail, is ready to settle down into home-life with his girlfriend, when he finds a hat in the bedroom that he knows has never touched his head. His quest to find the person who left it (refer to the play's title for Jackie's descriptor of the suspect) leads him on a comedic chase through both the present and his past. 7:30 pm. sunday 23 The Wes Anderson Collection Book Signing
The Source isn't the only one recognizing the greatness that is filmmaker Wes Anderson (see info on our Grand Anderson film series, page 23). Author Matt Zoller Seitz has written the first in-depth overview of Anderson's cinematic accomplishments, from Bottle Rocket to the upcoming The Grand Budapest Hotel. The book, crafted in the same whimsical fashion as the films, contains unpublished photos, story boards and script drafts, and is laid out amid a long-format interview with Anderson. Seitz signs books and discusses his creation. 7:30 pm. Powell's City of Books on Burnside. Free.
