"V is for Victory" Concert with The Decemberists

Local darlings The Decemberists play their first headline show in three years to raise funds for the Victory Academy School for Children with Autism. The benefit performance takes a walk down memory lane, with the band playing the entirety of their 2002 debut album, "Castaways and Cutouts" as well as other nostalgia-inducing favorites. So, basically, it'll be warm fuzzies on top of warm fuzzies. Laura Veirs opens the Thursday night show (the Friday show is already sold out). 8 pm, Crystal Ballroom, $49.50.

OBT: Create

Ever wonder where exactly modern dance comes from? How do abstract ideas, melodies, and movements come together to form polished performance pieces? Oregon Ballet Theatre lays bare the creative process, inviting the audience to witness seven works in progress—without sets, costumes or props—and discuss their transformation with the dancers who choreograph and perform them. OBT encourages audience members to check out two shows if they can, to see how the pieces shift and change over time. 2 pm and 7:30 pm, BodyVox Dance Center, $24.

Fly Colt Fly: The Legend of the Barefoot Bandit

Colton Harris-Moore, better known as the "Barefoot Bandit," captured the imagination—and ire—of evening newscasters and ordinary citizens alike with his bold, burgling antics. The teenager, who embarked on an epic crime spree through the Pacific Northwest after springing from a halfway house, managed to stay out of reach of the long arm of the law for two years as he traveled by (stolen) planes, boats, and automobiles. Criminal or not, it's hard not to be impressed by the kid's ingenuity and survival skills. 6:30 pm, SIFF Cinema Uptown, $10-$12.

Victor Wooten

While lead guitarists and vocalists tend to hog the limelight—and the melody, bass players are the heartbeat of a band, laying down the groove that keeps the music moving. And Victor Wooten, who has won Grammy awards as a member of super group Béla Fleck & the Flecktones, and as a solo performer, is one of the most influential bassists of modern times. A veritable virtuoso, Wooten's funky groove takes inspiration from the likes of James Brown, Funkadelic and Prince. 8 pm, The Neptune Theatre, $26.50-$30.
