When Chuck Palahniuk's first manuscript for "Invisible Monsters" was turned down by dozens of publishers for its disturbing and grotesque content, he set out to write something that would offend and disgust publishers even further, payback for their rejection letters. That revenge book was "Fight Club," a novel that just three years after its release was made into a cult classic movie starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. Palahniuk recently announced Tyler Durden's mind-bending story will be continued in graphic novel form. He will read "Bedtime Stories for Adults" with Chelsea Cain, Linda Yuknavitch, Monica Drake and other guests. 8 pm. Aladdin Theater. $29-$32.

On tour after releasing their first new album in 16 years, The Afghan Whigs bring their innovative, soulful rock to Portland. Though the band had a brief reunion tour in 2012, it effectively disbanded in 1998, but is now back together—sans lead guitarist Rick McCollum (who's working out some personal issues) and featuring collaborations with the likes of Usher's musical director Johnny "Natural" Najera, the Emeralds and Van Hunt. The resulting album is darkly dramatic, full of suspense, and elegantly arranged. 9 pm. Doug Fir Lounge. $30. 21 and over.

Matisyahu / Ozomatli / Makua Rothman
What? You don't think that orthodox Jews can rock out? Matisyahu's religion plays into the lyrics and perhaps smooths some of the edges of his hip-hop, but otherwise this is just catchy, fun-spirited beatboxing. This evening is a remarkable trifecta: Matisyahu is joined by Ozomatli, a good-natured LA-based band that bounces from salsa to jazzy jazz, and by professional surfer/singer Makua Rothman, who starts the evening with easygoing, rhythmic ukulele songs clearly inspired by his easygoing Hawaiian beach lifestyle. 6:30 pm.
