We're all aware of punk rock and surf rock and indie rock and alternative rock, but there's plenty of other rock genres out there, one of which has recently come to my attention: pirate rock. And yes, the music sounds exactly like the name suggests -- lots of angry growls and talks of planks and such.
And you can see this genre in action tonight when Deadly Gallows, a self-described pirate rock band from Reno, plays the Silver Moon. Opening the show is local acoustic hooligans Larry and His Flask, who are playing a frickin crapload of local shows before heading out on a massive Midwest and East Coast tour this spring.
