East Bend Branch of Deschutes Public Library Opens Today

The highly anticipated East Bend branch of the Deschutes Public Library opened today, March 22, 2011.

East Siders looking for a good read no long have to make the trek all the way downtown to check out a variety of books. Today, the highly anticipated East Bend branch of the Deschutes Public Library opened adjacent to The Forum Shopping Center, across the street on Dean Swift Rd.

If you check out DPL's Facebook page you'll see they've documented the first patrons to come through the doors, along with the first person to check out a book from the newest branch.

The new library features a community meeting room, Internet stations, story times, adult programs as well as popular books, films and music.

I finished reading a book I checked out from the library last night and found this quote from it to be especially fitting today as the new library opens:

"So the America I loved still exists, if not in the White House or the Supreme Court or the Senate or the House of Representatives or the media. The America I love still exists at the front desks of our public libraries."- Kurt Vonnegut, A Man Without A Country
