For the Audio Geeks: Silver Moon Brewing Gets New Soundsystem

The Silver Moon upgrades their in house sound.

Given that it's become one of Bend's most visited live music venues, it's fitting that the Silver Moon now has upped it's in-house sound system.

I'm hardly an audio guru, and for the most part don't complain about a venue's sound during a show -- unless it's unavoidable -- but from what the venue had to say in a press release yesterday, it sounds like a major improvement. And from what our staff has heard at the Moon in the past week, it literally sounds like an improvement.

For the background music (as in day-to-day stereo sounds for the pub), Silver Moon has added speakers that they expect to provide much more clarity than before. On the main stage, there are now Renkus Heinz (out of California) 15-inch woofers and an 18-inch subwoofer. Again, I'm no audio wizard (I still have a ghetto blaster in my home office), but this sounds like a big step for the venue.

Also, this could bode well for the Silver Moon's reputation with nationally touring bands, which have been coming in a steady stream through the pub. A band plays the Moon -- digs the beer, the people and, now, the sound system and tells their booking people to bring other acts. That's how it works. Or something like that.

Excuse me, I need to go change the cassette in my ghetto blaster.
