Zero new songs are in this week’s Friday Mixtape. Instead, it contains 18 tracks mostly from the last decade, but as far back as the 90s that may have been overlooked or forgotten. Great songs, like the harmonizing rock track “No Nostalgia” by Portland’s AgesandAges, prickly folk from Canada’s Jeremy Fisher and modernized 80s power pop from Brooklyn’s Tigercity. And each song should inspire a little digging into the albums associated with each track. That’s especially true of Michael Penn’s 1992 album Free-For-All, the singer’s extremely compelling and emotionally wrought sophomore release. Just be prepared to do some searching for it, the album is not available on Spotify.
