An Eagle Point man who constructed a man-made lake in his backyard complete with docks, boats and stocked fish, has received a 30-day jail sentence a $1,500 fine for storing the water behind an illegal dam.

According to the state Water Resources Department, Gary Harrington has been flouting regulators and the courts attempts to get him to remove his dam and artificial lake for more than a decade. Two previous attempts to get Harrington to comply were unsuccessful, with Harrington refilling his reservoir the day after his previous probation expired.

In addition to jail time, Judge Timothy Gerking ordered that the head gates be chained open and the dams breached once the reservoirs have drained.
