In the Bedroom
Tom Wilkinson, Sissy Spacek
This movie lets you feel the characters pain from the inside out. This is a very frustrating, engaging and depressing tale of the loss of a son at the hands of a jealous ex-husband and the length the parents will go to end their pain, even if it means taking the law into their own hands. Nobody wins.
21 Grams
Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Naomi Watts, Melissa Leo, Charlotte Gainsbourg
Deftly directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu this is the quintessential flick about inner turmoil, human suffering and angst ridden people who metaphorically dive off a cliff like lemmings in order to deal with their pain. All five main actors in this movie deserved Academy Awards, though only Del Toro and Watts were nominated. The non linear style will suck you into the heart wrenching mosaic of intertwining lives. Three people of highly different backgrounds are brought together by a terrible accident and by the end of this flick it’s clear none of them will ever be the same again…
Around the Bend
Christopher Walken, Josh Lucas, Michael Caine
What better way to deal with the loss of a family member than a road trip, especially if that trip is mapped out and designed by the deceased to follow a specific path to discover family secrets and truths. Jordan Roberts’ debut feature is an engaging saga of a journey to find one’s self and be perhaps an inspiration for things to come.
