This just in: Mt. Bachelor will open its 2008-2009 skiing and snowboarding season this Sunday ... assuming the snow gods cooperate.
"Based on a weekend storm forecast starting Friday, Mt. Bachelor announces its intention to open Sunday, December 14th," Mt. B management said in a press release. "The resort will determine what alpine terrain will be available as they continue mountain preparations and monitor the upcoming storm."
The press release advised skiers and boarders to keep checking the mountain's website for the latest updates.
Bachelor currently is reporting a base of a scant eight inches, but a winter storm watch has been issued for Friday and Saturday, with six to 10 inches of snow predicted in Bend by the end of Saturday and heavier snow in the Cascades.
"Early season conditions will exist and terrain is suggested for intermediate and advanced abilities only," Mt. Bachelor's press release said.
