Red Chair is Back

Last Tuesday, during the usual production madness, we took a timeout and had one of these.

Oh man.
  • Oh man.

We got our paws on an early shipment of Deschutes' Red Chair and, as we put the finishing touches on last week's issue, we popped the caps off our Northwest Pale Ales.
No surprises here. The beer that was named the WORLD'S BEST BEER at the 2012 World Beer Awards, remains the same as last year's version.
Brewmaster Cam O'Connor said in a recent press release, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

It ain't broke. The easy-shwilling NWPA is a reasonable 6.2% ABV and is hop-y but not out of control (60 IBUs). Which is probably why it was named WORLD'S BEST BEER, among other awards.

Last night was the official pub release (Bend and Portland) of the popular brew and Deschutes was, unsurprisingly, packed. The release also coincided with "cheap burger night," also known as "Local's Night," which is why we were there.

Red Chair is good and all, but I think the best beers at the pub right now are the slightly sour and high-alcohol (10%!) Super Jubelale and the Belgian brown The Yule Goat (6.1% ABV).
