What in the World: Chefs, Contraception, Immigration, 'Nice' Guys and Beyoncé

CHEFS: Sunriver Resort's Chef Travis Taylor
walked away from last weekend's Bite of Bend Top Chef competition with the highest award—and a 10" knife forged from layered copper and brass by local blacksmith Kellen Bateham. Travis is now qualified to compete at Bite of Oregon for the title of Iron Chef Oregon.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in favor of craft chain Hobby Lobby's decision to not cover certain forms of contraception for its employees. The privately-held company claimed a religious exemption. Though the court made the ruling more narrow than it could have, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg wrote in her dissent: "The court, I fear, has ventured into a minefield."

IMMIGRATION: If you want something done right, sometimes you have to do it yourself. President Barack Obama seems to be favoring that approach with today's announcement that he will take executive action on immigration. A bold move, especially in the face of House Speaker John Boehner's threat to sue his boss over his use of executive orders.

NICE GUYS: According to a study recently published in the Journal of Psychologypeople who are agreeable are more likely to acquiesce to authority figures  even if it means hurting someone. Those with "anti-social" personalities were more likely to refuse to participate. Also less likely to cause harm to others even when ordered to do so—the politically left-leaning.

MOVE OVER, OPRAH: Who runs the world? Beyoncé, apparently (obviously). Forbes magazine named the pop mega super ultra star the most powerful celebrity of 2014. And since everyone knows that celebrities are inherently more powerful than ordinary people, that effectively makes Queen Bey Top Boss of the World. Disagree? You've been warned...
