What's left out of the story is that three American evangelical Christians went to Uganda to teach that homosexuals could be "cured!" "Curing" homosexuals has been discredited in the U.S. since 1973. They arrived in Kampala to give a series of talks. They were presented as "experts" on homosexuality. To claim ignorance as knowledge is the epitome of deceitfulness. Their theme was "The gay agenda - the whole hidden and dark agenda". They discussed how "the gay movement is an evil institution" whose goal is "to defeat the marriage-based society and replace it with a culture of sexual promiscuity". That's not the gay agenda, it's the agenda that evangelicals fabricated and assigned to gays. It's void of the truth. If demanding equal rights (the same rights evangelicals have) that exist in the U.S. Constitution - "equal protection of the laws" - can be called an agenda, then so be it.
One month after the evangelical talks, Ugandan politicians introduced the Anti-homosexuality Bill, which threatened to hang homosexuals! The Bill represents a sickness prevalent today in many places. Countries that donate to Uganda, including the U.S., are demanding the proposed law be dropped. The Uganda government, fearful of losing millions, said it would back down, "slightly," and change the death penalty provision to life in prison. How comforting! The three American evangelicals are trying desperately to distance themselves from the bill. That will be difficult. The Uganda organizers of the talks admit to helping draft the bill.
