Jobs, Not Taxes | The Source Weekly - Bend, Oregon

Jobs, Not Taxes

We seek economic sustainability. A business-friendly Bend. More jobs. These are the campaign promises at the heart of every political platform. Just a few days after our most recent election, six hotels got a big tax-break, and now, Bend residents may get a chance to raise our own taxes. Is this really the formula for success?

Yes, we want a wider Reed Market Road. Yes, we want safer bike lanes. Yes, we want to be responsible to all Access Issues. No, we don't want another tax.

In my opinion, the number one goal for Bend should be to facilitate a business-friendly environment. From a position of economic prosperity we then can afford to address these issues. Our local economy requires some stimulating from the inside out. At this time, our money can be better spent. I'm just a voter, but I say, let the downtown revitalization tax expire and replace it with nothing.

Thank you for your service, and your consideration.
