THE SOURCE ROCKS, BUT 'ONE DAY AT A TIME' DOESN'T | The Source Weekly - Bend, Oregon

After living in Bend for a year and a half, I recently stopped through on business. I love the town, the people, and all the outdoor beauty the area offers.

One of my favorite things about Bend is without question, The Source.

From the first time I read it, I knew it would be a cover-to-cover great time for me to enjoy all the stories, community news, the updates on all the music and arts, presentations, and great things goings on around town.

A real treat I looked forward to each week. I think it's one of, if not the, best local paper I have ever seen.

A friend of mine recently sent me a package, and in the box I was so happy to see he included a couple of recent issues (Sept 20th and Oct 11th), a really pleasant surprise.

That is until I read The Week In Review article. OMG! What happened?

That was certainly the most current, funny, hip, and thought-provoking article in the paper! The difference of it now and then is absolutely amazing.  I have to say heartbreaking as well.

Chris Brown? Rihanna? Linsey Lohan? What gives? TMZ?

At first I thought it was a parody, then I thought "Well, maybe the Ace Reporter is on vacation." But alas there it was again in the second issue.

I'm still in shock as to the levels between the two as far as the column goes.

I'm sure I am not the only one who has bitched about this, and I mean no disrespect, but I was just wondering what gives? Is it a political pressure move? Was there no man or woman who could write similarly along the more intelligent line?

Maybe the Ace Reporter has moved on to higher ground, to a larger audience, or perhaps he's being held for ransom somewhere.

I guess life goes on.

But with the way things have been going in recent years, with so many movies so bad, commercial television insane, newspapers on the decline, and the Internet going is crazed directions... and now the Source does this?

I still wish you the best and it's good to see that a lot of the good qualities remain. Have a nice winter, and give my regards to Mt. Bachelor.
