ODFW Fishing Report for the Week of July 1

BIG LAVA LAKE: rainbow trout Anglers are having excellent success with rainbow trout. The fish are in great condition ranging in size from 11 - 16 inches.

CRANE PRAIRIE RESERVOIR: rainbow trout, brook trout, kokanee, largemouth bass. Fishing at Crane Prairie continues to be a Central Oregon high point this season. Anglers are having very good success catching larger fish up to 5 and 6 pounds with a good number of smaller fish also showing up in the creel.

CROOKED RIVER BELOW BOWMAN DAM: redband trout and mountain whitefish Biologists completed the annual population survey on the Crooked River Between June 14, and June 17; larger redband were seen this year than were seen in recent years. Although fishing was temporarily affected, anglers reported good fishing to creel surveyors on Monday, June 21. Flows are currently hovering around 250 cfs and should remain steady with dry weather.

CULTUS LAKE: Rainbow trout, lake trout Cultus is open and anglers have had success catching lake trout and a few rainbow trout.

DESCHUTES RIVER: trout. The river has been running high flows and off color. Trout anglers should look to nymphing during the higher water. Fish will likely be holding close to banks and structure.

EAST LAKE: rainbow trout, brown trout, Atlantic salmon, kokanee The ice is off the lake and very accessible. There have been no reports from anglers, however, the fishing should be good for brown trout, rainbow trout and kokanee. Hot Springs boat ramp is open.

LAKE BILLY CHINOOK: bull trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, kokanee, smallmouth bass Fishing has been consistent.

LITTLE LAVA LAKE: rainbow trout, brook trout Anglers are reporting that a few smaller brook trout are being caught, along with some nice rainbow trout. No reports of rainbow being caught at this time.

METOLIUS RIVER: redband trout, bull trout No recent reports, though the redband trout angling should be good.

NORTH TWIN: rainbow trout Recent angler reports are that anglers are catching rainbow trout in the 10 to 14-inch range and while the fishing is okay it has slowed a little compared to the week before. North Twin is a great lake to take young kids to as there is a good beach shoreline and it is protected from the wind. Look to catch rainbow trout in the 8 inch to 13 inch size range.

ODELL LAKE: kokanee, lake trout, rainbow trout The kokanee angling at Odell lake has turned on and anglers are having excellent success. The fish are ranging in size from Anglers targeting kokanee should get on the water early.
