It's Just Sage Brush: The Life History of the Great Sage Grouse
The High Desert Museum is hosting a presentation by Garth Fuller of the Nature Conservancy about a new, collaborative effort to restore sage grouse habitat. Following Fuller's presentation there will be a screening of a documentary film by Steve Chindgren entitled The film was given honorable mention for cinematography at the International Wildlife Film Festival.

Cold Rolled and Among the Wild
The sale of fat bikes has doubled and doubled-again over the past couple year—so much so that they have moved from fad into their own genre of biking, now completed with movies! Bend Cyclery and Pine Mountain Sports present a double feature of fatbike films. Cold Rolled explores the history of the winter biking culture in a small Michigan town. Among the Wild chronicles the Arrowhead 135, arguable one of the toughest races on the planet, where athletes compete by running, cycling or skiing 135 miles across Northern Minnesota through the ridiculously treacherous Arrowhead State Snowmobile Trail. The double feature is part of the Central Oregon Trail Alliance movie night series.

Big Dream
The statistics are changing, but only slightly: According to the National Science Foundation, in spite of higher enrollment in higher education, women are woefully underrepresented in science and engineering fields. Oh sure, between 1989 and 2008, the number of women earning degrees in computer science made a healthy leap from 10 to 21 percent, but that remains still only one out of five in the field. Underwritten by Microsoft, this documentary may not be entirely pure in its journalistic integrity, but it is whole-hearted in its inspiration and information as it follows seven young women/girls who each are trying to go into tech fields. After the film, there will be a panel discussion from local women who will discuss their entry into the tech field.

Hannah Free
A lesbian romance from 2009 based on a play by Claudia Allen, the film sounds like a reverse gendered version of Brokeback Mountain where two women living in a place and time where traditional gender expectations must be met. The women maintain their love affair through wars, denial and infidelity while never truly getting to be free with one another. Sharon Gless and Maureen Gallagher star in this emotionally powerful drama. Part of the Stars and Rainbows film series.
