SURVIVAL SKILLS

Join the Central Oregon Avalanche Association on the COCC campus for a full day of speakers from around the country discussing topics ranging from risk and decision making to traveling safely through the backcountry. THE CHURCH OF NEIL

MUSIC FEST

Bend's favorite underground music festival dedicated to the magic that Neil Young is back for another year — this year hosted at Worthy Brewing. The 15th annual edition features eight bands on three stages, with proceeds benefitting Bend Roots-Rise Up, a music education nonprofit. 6pm-midnight. Worthy Brewing, 495 NE Bellevue Dr., Bend. DIRKSEN DERBY 11

SNOWBOARD/SIT-SKI RACE

The Dirksen Derby is a three-day event dedicated to Tyler Eklund, a Bend snowboarder who suffered a spinal cord injury after crashing his board at the U.S. Snowboard and Freeski Association Nationals at age 14, paralyzing him from the neck down. Dirksen Derby was born in an effort to help Eklund pay his medical bills and has grown into a fundraiser for Protect Our Winters, Central Oregon Avalanche Association and Oregon Adaptive Sports. This year the event will include 17 snowboard and sit-ski divisions. Mt. Bachelor, 13000 SW Century Dr., Bend. Registration varies.

WINTER PRIDEFEST 2019

LGBTQ + SKI WEEKEND

Who says Pride has to end in June? After a successful run last year, OUTCentralOregon is bringing back the Winter PrideFest for its second year. Enjoy a full weekend of skiing, snowshoeing, tubing and ice skating — capped off with a dance party, brunch and Super Bowl viewing party in downtown Bend. Various locations in Bend.

BACKCOUNTRY FEST

FREE-HEEL SKIIING

Formerly known as Tele-Fest, Backcountry Fest is a celebration of free-heel skiing. Enjoy races, demos, a costume contest and samples from Three Creeks Brewing. A great time for experienced Nordic skiers and those who want to try free-heel skiing, but aren't sure where to start! Hoodoo Ski Area, 27400 Big Lake Rd., Sisters.

The Winter Carnival has been a Hoodoo tradition for nearly 40 years and includes a number of free events, from ax throwing to musical chairs. Kids and adults alike will enjoy frisbee golf, a three-legged obstacle race, team tube race, hula-hoop contest, fly-athalon, a pie eating contest and many more activities. Stay after sunset for fireworks and a special dinner menu. Lifts open 9am-9pm. Hoodoo Ski Area, 27400 Big Lake Rd., Sisters. Free, no lift tickets required for activities.

OREGON WINTERFEST

WINTER FEST

Join thousands of spirited locals and visitors President's Day weekend for three days of live music, delicious food and drink and activities for the whole family. The fire pit artist installations and ice sculptures are a must-see. New this year is the Central Oregon Light Art installation, featuring illuminated creations from local and regional artists.
