Doc and Connie Hatfield Sustainable Resource Series by Ed Marston

Since the snow is already flying, the timing couldn't have been better. Matchstick Productions celebrates 20 years of making bad-ass ski films with a heck of a 2012 release. Dear Rabbit

saturday 17

Accordion, guitar, trombone, harmonica and banjo make up the meat of Deer Rabbit (a.k.a. Rence Liam), who cranks out euro-folk all by his lonesome. The multi-talented Liam uses looping pedals and vintage instruments to create a postmodern gypsy sound, and, coupled with his high-energy performances, the dude resembles a one-man version of Gogol Bordello. 21+. $5. 8 p.m. The Horned Hand, 507 NW Colorado Ave.

The Knux, Jay Tablet, Zyme, DJ True Justice

saturday 17

Whoa? The Knux? Really? Yes! The L.A.-based hip-hop duo is coming to town and they're bringing their ultra-catchy hit, "Bang! Bang!," with them. Listen to it if you're unfamiliar. And maybe you should polish your penny loafers, because this is part of the "Look Good, Feel Good Tour," featuring Zyme, Jay Tablet and DJ True Justice. 21+. 9 p.m. The Astro Lounge, 939 NW Bond St.

Welcome to Winter Fire Pit Party

saturday 17

We love winter. And we love beer and coffee and communal fires and live music and dancing and other such fun things. And, oh, hey! You can enjoy all these things at the "Welcome to Winter" party downtown, where Wilderness and Rural Demons will be playing a few sets to help warm your little bones. It's all happening just behind the breezeway in the common area behind Boken. Free party, but the beer costs money. 5 p.m.- 9 p.m., Mirror Pond Plaza.

Brews & Bands with White Fort

sunday 18

It's a Soviet take over in Central Oregon! No! It's White Fort! The Russian band plays a hybrid of old-world music and Flamenco, which they shred with nasty guitar solos and fast-bowed violins. Like a paired down Trans-Siberian Orchestra with original content and a gallon of vodka, the duo's instrumental musical theatrics are always crowd pleasers. No cover. 8 p.m. Broken Top Bottle Shop & Ale Café, 1740 NW Pence Ln #1.

Create Your Own Zombie: Bringing the Resilient Undead to Life

Russell will cover interpretations of zombies in film, literature and video games and explore their vastly different, brain-hungry incarnations. 5 p.m. Hitchcock Auditorium, COCC, 2600 NW College Way.
