With winter seeming to kick back into gear here in mid-February it’s time to put all those prematurely released spring ales on hold and keep our focus on the big brawny ales that will sustain us until it’s time to exchange the long underwear for non-marine certified inflateables. Deschutes Brewery’s recently released Hop Henge is the perfect candidate. The high gravity IPA is available in 22 oz. bottles around town as part of the brewery’s Bond Street Series. But the real way to experience this limited edition brew is right from the tap in one of the pub’s signature brandy snifters. Weighing in at just under 9 percent alcohol, Hop Henge is the kind of beer for which you might want to pre-arrange transportation. This brew took home the top prize in the Strong IPA category at the 2007 World Brew Fest. As a fan of beers like Green Lakes and Inversion IPA, I can see why.
