On Jan. 1, Oregon’s new automatic voter registration law goes into effect. It’s the first automatic voting registration law in the U.S. Anyone who renews or obtains a new Oregon ID or driver’s license will be automatically registered if they are eligible to vote. People who wish to opt out of the registration system have three weeks after being enrolled. The law is expected to bring in tens of thousands of new voters each month, according to OPB. (OBP)
