Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that also fuses elements of dance and music. It isย played by two people who engage in a corporal conversation in a rodaโa circleย of people who sing, clap, and play instruments. The music commands the tempo and energy of the game, which is played with a series of kicks and escapes. Come learn new ways to move your body to the centuries-old rhythms of capoeira!
This summer, Chimps Inc., along with Sol Alchemy Temple (who has generouslyย donated their space), will be hosting a 12-week introductory series to capoeira. This ย workshop will feature movement, music, and philosophy. 100% of enrollment fees will benefit Chimps Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit chimpanzee sanctuary specifically designed to provide lifetime care to captive chimpanzees rescued or retired from the pet and entertainment industries. The sanctuary, located right in Tumalo, is dedicated to overcoming the exploitation and cruelty that chimps face through advocacy, conservation, education and outreach.
