There are plenty of good reasons to go to the library.  Movies are one of them.

A Family Affair: Tango Alpha Tango at McMenamins Wednesday

Tango Alpha Tango sound like Tallest Man on Earth and The Pixies teamed up to write a blues-style soundtrack for an independent documentary about strip clubs. All doused with a good helping of North West indie music styling, their songs range from the straight heavy blues rock on “Kill and Haight” to soft acoustic breakupโ€ฆ

A new Thai restaurant is moving into the old Typhoon! location on Bond Street, on the first floor of Franklin Crossing. The restaurant, called Noi, is owned by a Seattle-based Thai family with two existing restaurants in that city, said Darren Powderly, president of Compass Commercial, which assisted in the leasing of the property.

What’s Your Problem: Horned Hand Goes Volcanic

If you’re wondering if it were possible for the Horned Hand to add yet another facet to its multi-layered business, the answer is yes. To wit, the art gallery, clothing retailer, live music venue and watering hole on Colorado, will host the premier performance of Volcanic Theater’s “Bobby Gould in Hell,” a searing David Mametโ€ฆ

Awbrey Shooting Story Missed the Target

I am saddened by the article regarding the shooting on Awbrey Butte. The tone, as I perceive it, is, “Let’s make this a murder mystery and make the rich guy look questionable!” Very Un-Source like. I am sure Mr. Munoz was a good friend, dad, etc. And no one could feel anything but sympathy forโ€ฆ

Alleyโ€™s Lame Delegate Play

Itโ€™s one thing to hear of disenfranchised voters across the country in Florida, Ohio, or Wisconsin; what is that but abstract hearsay? But now we have proof and ample witnesses of just that here in the Pacific Northwest. Most voters donโ€™t realize the representative process for the citizen is the Precinct Representative, or PCP. Theโ€ฆ

Killing Cats Is No Solution

Decades of euthanizing free-roaming stray and feral cats has not resulted in a sustained reduction in their numbers or improved the health and safety of communities or cats (โ€œTime for a Cat Management Plan,โ€ July 11, 2012). Trap and kill is not only ineffective and unpopular with citizens, itโ€™s a poor use of limited municipalโ€ฆ

Guns Donโ€™t Kill People. The NRA Kills People

Whatโ€™s the best cure for alcoholism? More martinis! It sounds crazy, and it is. But itโ€™s no crazier than the garbage being spewed by Americaโ€™s gun cultists in the wake of last weekโ€™s horrific massacre in a Colorado movie theater. A young man clad in SWAT-team black, his hair dyed a weird shade of orange,โ€ฆ

The Art of Pickathon: A look inside the Northwestโ€™s most innovative music festival

Scott McMicken, singer and lead guitarist of Philadelphia-based rock band Dr. Dog, never really liked playing music festivals. And heโ€™s had ample opportunity to form an opinionโ€”Dr. Dog is a veteran of some of the countryโ€™s biggest fests, including Bonnaroo and Coachella. But that was before McMicken played Pickathon in 2009. โ€œPickathon is definitely myโ€ฆ

The Artists Next Door: Keeping It Local with Etsy

Human anatomy printed on vintage dictionary pages. Cast iron horses jockeyed by real beetles. Earrings made of artificial teeth. The online wonder of Etsy is clearly not for the aesthetic conservative. It is, however, the first place to go to quickly find something specific, like a birdhouse made from wine corks and stones collected fromโ€ฆ

In Good Company: Casting young Hollywood in Woody Allen movies

Many factors make a Woody Allen movie uniquely Woody Allen. While his style incorporates distinctive dialogue, neurotic characters and beautiful city landscapesโ€”casting has always been his strong suit. In both To Rome With Love and last yearโ€™s Midnight in Paris, several of young Hollywoodโ€™s brightest stars have joined Allenโ€™s ensemble. Since Allen most frequently playedโ€ฆ
