Wilco Editorial: Part Deux

(Tweedy rocking out at Sasquatch)Back in June I wrote a little blog post where I generally spoke about my love for the band Wilco. That post came a few hours before I was to see the band for the third time in 2012 at the Idaho Botanical Gardens in Boise. Since then, I’ve been toโ€ฆ

Noise Ordinance Update

Half a dozen people shared their concerns about a new noise ordinance at a Bend City Council work session Wednesday.   But ultimately the council did not make any changes to the law passed earlier this summer.

To the editor, Source Weekly, Oct. 15, 2012:

What is it about Barb Campbell that so alarms the local power structure? During a recent three-day splurge, the political action arms of the Bend Chamber of Commerce and Realtors Association dropped $7,000 into the pockets of Victor Chudowsky, one of Barbโ€™s opponents for Bend City Council, Position One. Combined, this is the most moneyโ€ฆ

SAY โ€œNOโ€ TO WALDEN

Though disappointed, I am not surprised that, once again The Bulletin would endorse the reelection of Rep. Greg Walden. Particulary this year, when Congressโ€™ favorability rating for Republications has been as low as 10 percent, we have heard more than ever the mantra โ€œthrow the bums out.โ€ Why not our โ€œbum?โ€ That seems to beโ€ฆ

Taking a Swipe at SWIP

โ€œWhiskeyโ€™s for drinkinโ€™ and waterโ€™s for fightinโ€™,โ€ goes the old Wild West proverb. Thereโ€™s no better example of that than the political and legal battle raging over Bendโ€™s Surface Water Irrigation Project, aka SWIP, aka the Bridge Creek Project. It all goes back to the EPAโ€™s determination that Bendโ€™s water supplyยฌ drawn from Bridge Creekโ€ฆ

Our Picks For 10/19-10/25

Black Pussy with The Autonomics friday 19 Allegedly, the Rolling Stones wanted to call โ€œBrown Sugar,โ€ their smash hit from โ€™71, โ€œBlack Pussy,โ€ but were shot down. In a tribute of sorts, the Portland boys who make up the stoner-rock band Black Pussy decided to call their band after the abandoned song name. Keith Oโ€™Dell,โ€ฆ

Letโ€™s Get Literal: Fox & Woman inspired by existential poetry

Whatchewlookinat, sucka? Fox and Women, who will play The Horned Hand on Oct. 18, derive as much inspiration from the words of existential writer Simone de Beauvoir as they do from any musical muse. Deeply rooted in the lyrics and string-laden music of this folk-pop band is the poetry of de Beauvoirโ€™s writing, such asโ€ฆ
