Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory is thrilled to share that 100% of your donation will fund scholarships for local kids this school year AND a generous donor is going to match your donation with a gift to our Education Endowment!
Schools can’t afford to send kids on field trips like they used to – field trip funds are drying up, and in some schools they’ve evaporated completely. Help us fill our Field Trip Fund so we can host children from Title I and other high-need Central Oregon schools for thrilling, immersive, education-packed field trips.
Staunch advocate for nature education, Dr. Patricia Bade, recently established an Education Endowment that honors her late husband and SNCO devotee, Mark.
Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory is also thrilled to announce that Patty is going to MATCH all of your donations with contributions to the Mark Hebenstreit Nature Education Endowment, helping us build toward a future of fully funded field trips!
Like Patty, we know it’s important to you to get kids out to our nature center and observatory to spark their interest in the world around them. Endowed funds provide permanent, sustainable support for education scholarships — enabling underserved local children to explore natural science at SNCO for generations to come.
It’s more important than ever to take a stand for science education: Despite all the hype about STEM, students are engaging with a *shockingly* small amount of science in school – just 18 minutes per WEEK(!!), according to a poll of grade K-3 teachers in the 2018 National Survey of Science and Mathematics (link).
Local community science centers like ours play a vital role in expanding exposure to science (link). Invest in our Field Trip Fund to bring these crucial learning experiences to local kids!
YOU can help us fill the Field Trip Fund by September 3 – the first day of school! Click here.
