Central Oregon seems to have a healthy volunteer network, especially when it comes to preserving the natural bounty of the area. A local business owner is organizing a new community cleanup called The Big Bend Pickup. Danny Goll owns HiBar Cleaning Solutions. He and his wife, Candy, have been active in the Bend Beautification Program through the City which encourages volunteer efforts to improve the esthetics of Bend.

Goll is seeking 100 volunteers to help pick up trash throughout the city on Saturday, Oct. 4. โ€œIt’s because we love Bend and how beautiful it is and want to ensure it stays as clean as possible,ย particularly as it continues toย grow,โ€ Goll told the Source. Volunteers will be assigned to an area in need of attention to pick up litter and put it in bags that will later be picked up by the city. Supplies will be provided through the Bend Beautification Program.

While the exact locations have not been determined, Goll says, โ€œWe did learn from the city that the east side doesn’t get the attention that the west side does, as far as the number of streets being adopted through the Bend Beautification Program.โ€

Goll, a self-admitted neat-freak, says this is a passion project for him. After relocating to Bend from Seattle, he started his window cleaning, pressure washing business. โ€œMuch like the mission behind The Big Bend Pickup, my business is rooted in contributing to a cleaner, more welcoming Bend for everyone,โ€ Goll explains. โ€œWe’re aiming to clean up all of the streets and walkways around Bend, or as many as we can that need the most attention this first time around.

As a reward, volunteers, 21 or older, will receive a token for a beer at a partnering brewery including Sunriver Brewing, Bend Brewing, Silver Moon and The Podski.

Goll is hoping to make The Big Bend Pickup a biannual event every October and April.
