A new Goodwill Superstore and job training facility on Hunnell Road by Costco makes its debut to North Bend this April.
The 10,000-square-foot superstore and career training facility will provide new jobs for over 50 employees. An additional group of career preparation instructors working at the Career Center will provide community members seeking jobs with opportunities to develop personal and professional skills.
“This is where we provide free services to community members like free computer training, free help with connecting folks to jobs — which some people still don’t know that it’s really our whole mission,” Public Relations Manager at Goodwill Industries of the Columbia- Willamette, Hayley Platt, told the Source.
According to Robert Reichert, assistant manager at the new superstore, the training classes will be free and open to the public The class material covers computer-based information teaching students about Microsoft platforms, resume crafting, English as a Second Language and how to recognize scams.
Platt says instructors will rotate between sister locations in Redmond and South Bend where job training services are already provided.
A ribbon-cutting event was scheduled for April 9 at 8am, and was set to include Mayor Melanie Kebler, several city council members and members of the Bend Chamber of Commerce.
Reichert says that the new store has been fully stocked for around three weeks. The superstore will serve as a “hub” for locally sourced thrifted goods to circulate to the two sister locations in South Bend and Redmond.
“We are really excited to have a third location in Central Oregon to meet needs because Bend is growing,” Platt says. “We are thrilled to have another store to offer more opportunities for people to shop sustainably and find great treasures and receive free classes we offer to people who need them.”
