This project is all about making the Galveston corridor safer for everyone who uses it. As we get closer to construction, we want to keep you in the loop about what’s happening and what’s guiding the project decisions.

You may recall, there were substantial public involvement efforts during the early development of this project. And more recently, some adjustments have been made to focus on safety and the budget that’s available. Minimizing impacts to businesses during construction is also a priority and influenced the updated plans. The most recent design plan can be found on the project website at bendoregon.gov/galveston.

Raised Crossing at 17th Street

In response to community feedback, the updated design will include a raised crossing at NW 17th Street instead of the previously considered Flagline location.

Phased Construction

Construction will be completed in phases to reduce impacts. The City also aims to align construction with expected private redevelopment activities on Galveston. Coordinating redevelopment efforts reduces the City’s project costs and makes the most efficient use of city funds.

Construction Begins Summer 2026

Phase 1 work begins this summer. Improvements include replacing several driveway and alley approaches. This phase is estimated to be completed by fall 2026.

What to Expect During Phase 1 Construction

  • Two-way traffic will be maintained
  • Some shoulder work with minor traffic impacts and delays
  • Access to all businesses will be maintained

More details about other construction phases are available on the project website.
