Indivisible Redmond to Hold a Protest Demonstration on July 18

On Saturday, July 18, Indivisible Redmond is joining communities across America for Good Trouble Lives On — a national weekend of action to honor the legacy of Congressman John Lewis and to demand an end to the growing attacks on our democracy and our rights.

Right here in Redmond, we’ll be gathering at the Freedom Hub, 732 SW 6th Street, Redmond (the old Joann’s location) at 9:30 a.m. for a protest demonstration. At 10:30 a.m., we march to the High Desert Music Hall in Redmond for a teach-in from 11:00 a.m. to noon. The workshop will feature music, discussion, and instruction on how to safeguard our inalienable right to vote. The fight to protect voting rights never ends, and right now, we’re witnessing a Jim-Crow-era effort from politicians and their billionaire friends to restrict our freedoms, silence our voices, and consolidate power.

Together, we’ll raise our voices to say we demand a democracy where all of us — Black, Brown, white, immigrant, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, and working people — can make our voices heard and live with dignity.

For several months, Congress has attempted to force through legislation that would block millions of Americans from voting and state legislatures have been working to advance similar bills at the state level. As a result, many voters will face new rules and requirements to vote in November, including new documentation requirements, changes to vote-by-mail and more.

Congressman Lewis taught us that change doesn’t come by waiting for permission. It comes when we come together to make good trouble, necessary trouble.

So, on July 18, we’re using our community spaces to protest, promote civic education, and encourage voter participation. We’re showing that Good Trouble Lives On and that together, we can protect our rights and build a democracy that works for all of us.
