What began in October 2020 as Oregon’s first dog food truck has grown into a thriving local pet supply store serving pets and their people throughout Central Oregon. Local Paws Pet Supply is celebrating six years in business with its 6th Annual Customer Appreciation Event on Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Redmond store, 435 SW Evergreen Ave.
Local Paws started with an 18-foot trailer that was set up in Redmond as a mobile pet store, giving local pet owners the opportunity to walk inside and shop for their pets. The business also offered local delivery, making it easier for Redmond pet owners to access healthier food and thoughtfully selected pet products without having to travel outside the community.
As the business grew and the community embraced the concept, Local Paws took its next big step in May 2022, moving into its current brick-and-mortar location on SW Evergreen Avenue.
Six years after opening its doors, the annual Customer Appreciation Event has become one of Local Paws’ biggest celebrations of the year, bringing together pet owners, national pet brands, local animal rescues, nonprofits and community members for a day focused on pets, people and giving back.
“Our Customer Appreciation Event is really a celebration of the community that has supported us from the very beginning,” said Jessica Tiersma, owner of Local Paws Pet Supply. “We started with a trailer because we wanted to bring healthier food and better options to the pets of Redmond while creating a place where people could get knowledgeable, personalized help. Watching that small idea grow into the Local Paws community we have today is incredibly special to us.”
The 2026 event will feature 18 participating national pet brands, including Woof, The Honest Kitchen, NutriSource, Dr. Marty’s, Open Farm and Nulo, along with additional pet food and product brands. Brand representatives will be on hand to connect with customers, answer questions and share information about nutrition, enrichment and healthy pet care.
The event will also have a strong community and animal-welfare focus. BrightSide Animal Center and Herding Dog Rescue of Central Oregon will both be attending with adoptable dogs looking for their forever homes.
Additional nonprofit partners Jericho Road and the Redmond Senior Center will highlight their Passion For Pets program, which helps provide food for the pets of Meals on Wheels clients. The program helps ensure that seniors and other Meals on Wheels recipients can continue caring for the pets who provide companionship and an important part of their daily lives.
The first 200 qualifying purchases will also receive a free insulated Local Paws tote filled with samples, treats, food and other pet goodies. Totes will be available while supplies last, with a $25 minimum purchase and a limit of one tote per household/Local Paws account.
The event will also include a community raffle benefiting the four attending nonprofits and rescues. Raffle tickets will be $2, with baskets valued at more than $500 each.
Local Paws has continued to make community involvement a central part of its business since its beginnings as a mobile pet store. The store regularly partners with local animal rescues and organizations for adoption events and other community programs, while focusing on providing Central Oregon pet owners with knowledgeable, personalized service and thoughtfully selected pet products.
The Customer Appreciation Event has become one of the store’s largest annual celebrations. Last year’s event brought more than 1,000 pet owners to Redmond, creating a day filled with shopping, education, community connections and plenty of pets.
In addition to the in-store celebration on October 10, event savings will continue throughout Sunday, October 11, giving customers another opportunity to take advantage of participating promotions.
