Holy Fire | Foals | Warner Music Intelligent rock. That’s the trade of the members of the Oxford, England, band Foals. And, damn, they’re good at their craft. The band’s third release, Holy Fire is a catalog of smartly constructed indie synth-rock that feels like an arduous but satisfying journey through the entire existence of […]
Ethan Maffey
Both a writer and a fan of vinyl records since age 5, it wasn't until nearly three decades later that Oregon Native Ethan Maffey derived a plan to marry the two passions by writing about music. From blogging on MySpace in 2007 and then Blogspot, to launching his own website, 83Music, and eventually freelancing for publications in the Pacific Northwest, like Spokane’s alt-weekly Inlander, Ethan’s aim has been to provide fans of music alternatives to the mundane and overplayed. This included a nearly two year stint as the music editor for the Source, where he scoured the Bend music scene drawing attention to local talent and notable touring acts as they passed through town. In addition to deep knowledge of the local music scene, Ethan has an uncanny ability to quote lines from the television show “Friends.” He also has an eye for women’s fashion and feels a kinship with Lucky Day, Steve Martin’s character in ¡Three Amigos!

The Venue Two-Step
By most accounts, Bend bar Liquid Lounge is not often associated with singer/songwriter shows. It’s probably better known for black light parties, grinding, DJs and the best place to wear your spandex halter top on a Saturday night. And though its name changed from Boondocks Bar & Grill early last year, the former Elks Lodge […]
Friday Office Party!
It’s the Source’s Love edition of the Friday Office Party! Don’t expect every song to be of the romantic nature—but each one does include the word love. The opening track “I Love It” by Icona Pop is anything but a bubbly relationship song. Instead it’s a feisty dance track, a fist-pumping break-up anthem. From there […]
