Here are some past performers from the Pacific Northwest’s premier outdoor music festival.
Ethan Maffey
Both a writer and a fan of vinyl records since age 5, it wasn't until nearly three decades later that Oregon Native Ethan Maffey derived a plan to marry the two passions by writing about music. From blogging on MySpace in 2007 and then Blogspot, to launching his own website, 83Music, and eventually freelancing for publications in the Pacific Northwest, like Spokane’s alt-weekly Inlander, Ethan’s aim has been to provide fans of music alternatives to the mundane and overplayed. This included a nearly two year stint as the music editor for the Source, where he scoured the Bend music scene drawing attention to local talent and notable touring acts as they passed through town. In addition to deep knowledge of the local music scene, Ethan has an uncanny ability to quote lines from the television show “Friends.” He also has an eye for women’s fashion and feels a kinship with Lucky Day, Steve Martin’s character in ¡Three Amigos!

In fact, it is difficult to find any notable jazz musician who has been kicking around jazz clubs for a while who lacks a […]
Musical Archives
Books, Wikipedia and documentaries, are all okay means to access historical knowledge. But a better way to truly understand the emotional and cultural history of, oh, say, New Orleans, is the twenty-plus albums released over the course of 30 years, either by or featuring that city’s legendary Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Its anthology of bright […]
Genders and The Cabin Project CANCELLED!
Change of plans for Genders tomorrow night in Bend.
So Long, See You Tomorrow
Like a magic trick transforming a bouquet of flowers into a bird, the mutation of British foursome Bombay Bicycle Club from an indie rock band into an outright synth pop group might seem just as abrupt. Listen to any track from 2011’s A Different Kind of Fix and then hop over to a song from […]
Rising to the Top
Like Minneapolis, Austin and Brooklyn, Portland ranks among our nation’s top zones for producing quality bands. (See the recent success of Blind Pilot and Typhoon for starters.) And just like artists in those cities, an inexplicable number have the talent to make it big; and yet, only some ever will. The rest are resigned to […]
