To all of those westside noise bemoaners, I have a simple proposition for you. I am willing to trade you straight across, my eastside abode for yours. I don’t care about the size or condition of your house, I’m just looking to get back to the neighborhood that I was priced out of about eight years ago. I have a nice, humble home of about 1300 square feet, built in 1999.

Writing to encourage Central Oregon citizens, especially women and feminist men, to protest The (Bend) Bulletin’s support of the GOP Nominee for President, M. Romney. The GOP has taken women’s status to 1950 conditions [by] removing or limiting abortion rights state by state, removing support for Planned Parenthood, women’s health, and children’s health services. The Bulletin’s flagrant support of the GOP, via Romney is a clear indicator of their vision of the future.

As a veteran of the feminist movement I have always stated that the song remains the same for women. I have come to believe that after all the marching, sign holding, sit-in-ing, media-reported statements of, “a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle,” we achieved one thing.
Did we punch and break the glass ceiling? Well, no. Did we equalize pay and change the 70 cents a woman receives to a man’s dollar for doing the same job? Not a chance. Did we stop sexual harassment on the job? Not in my ongoing experience with my fellow workers. It is still common practice and silently endured by both genders who will not risk losing their job by filing a complaint. We still don’t ask and we still don’t tell. Playground justice continues to be a familiar reality of our lives.

I ride a bike sometimes and I also walk my dogs responsibly on a leash and pick up after them so we can all enjoy the river trail, but, here’s to the rude mountain biker I encountered today: Could you please announce in a voice that is audible that you are behind me on the three-foot-wide trail before you are at my left shoulder. And please let me move my little wiener dog out of your way before you are passing and barely missing him by four inches. Thanks…[I’d] hate to have you actually have to slow down and share the river trail.

Shawn Blount’s article concerning the elimination of chocolate milk and presumably other flavors of sugar-sweetened milk in schools is rational.  However, if sweetened milk is eliminated, the question becomes how many children will voluntarily drink plain milk.  My guess is not many, and they would then switch to other more sweetened drinks.  If all sweetened drinks including fruit juices are eliminated in schools, what is left?  It would seem water would be the best choice.
