What makes a music festival great? Getting better with age. That has certainly been true of the Sasquatch Festival year to year, but also true each year, day to day.

Sasquatch Festival: Day one in photos
Despite a little SNAFU with my camping situation, the first day of Sasquatch is turning out to be a success (Pretty Lights have yet to take the main stage). Sunshine dominated most of the day and many of the bands were bringing their “A” game today.
Tenacious D is a Maxxinista
Jack Black spotted at TJ Maxx in Bend, reports a reputable caller to the Source. Soon after, a bothersome fan insisting on a photo drove him away, reports caller.
Jackalope Grill: Opening downtown soon! Seriously!
It’s been awhile—longer than owner/chef Tim Garling would have liked.
But after the usual number of setbacks and delays associated with new construction, the Jackalope Grill is close to opening its doors downtown.
Adventure Galley: “Weekend Lovers” Video
Adventure Galley, former Bend locals and crew of party- hungry hipsters, released their first music video on Friday for their song “Weekend Lovers.” Synth heavy and catchy as hell, “Weekend Lovers” is a great example of what the band does best— make fun, indie-pop music that makes everyone want to get up and dance.
Roots Rock Revival: After a brief hiatus, The Beautiful Train Wrecks are back
Lucas Alberg, front man for the The Beautiful Train Wrecks, is a renaissance man.
The lanky 33-year-old Bend resident brews beer, builds hip websites and collects cool art. He also runs sub-three hour marathons, plays guitar and writes songsโgood ones.
In 2007, Alberg, then in Portland, formed a roots rock band and named it The Beautiful Train Wrecks. They put out an 11-track album, Rainy Day Parade, which received lots of positive reviews, and the band booked shows all over the Rose City, including at the Doug Fir.
Drugs and Futbol! “The Two Escobars” is screening at COCC tonight, for free!
I’m going to see The Two Escobars tonight. It looks sweet.
Visit OR State Parks for Free on June 2
You can camp and visit day-use areas in Oregon State Parks for free on June 2!
There will be a bunch of cool events all over the state to celebrate this special little day.
If you like disc golfing go to Milo McIver State Park near Estacada, or consider staying at Silver State Falls State Park and getting in on the 5k and youth development run.
Adios Aamco, Hello Crux
We had a chance to drop by Crux Fermentation , the new Old Mill area brewery from Paul Evers of tbd and longtime Deschutes brewmaster Larry Sidor. The brewery is shooting for an end of June opening and things are moving apace at the job site where crews are working to get the brew system, kitchen and pretty much everything else installed before grand opening.
It’s Going To Be EPIC
When I first heard that actor/musician Hugh Laurie will be playing his inspiring and tasty blues originals at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland June 1st, I just about fell out of my chair. You heard right, lead actor of Fox’s hit TV show House will be performingย amongย the Portland and Oregon fans next Friday along with his extremely talented Copper Bottom Band.
