Happy Hour Review: Rockin’ Dave’s Backstage Lounge 



In Midtown? Thirstaaaay? Fancy some good eats but want a mellow vibe? Then Rockin’ Daves’ Backstage Lounge is your neighborhood jaunt. Rock melodies fill this intimate hole-in-the-wall adorned with music memorabilia and old school records. It’s like you’ve just walked into a 70s bar—without the seedy side.

If you’ve ever been to Rockin’ Daves for its homemade boiled bagel—or have seen the line out the door—then you’re in luck. Don’t expect the same chaos in this low-key and still-under-the- radar back bar. The regulars are regulars for a reason: contrary to other bars, you can actually hear your partner/drunk friend/total stranger, talk/shout at you. Bless.

Known for their stellar twists on Bloody Marys, we care not to think of the calorie intake on our favorite, chipotle-bacon version, but Dave also has a rotating tap of local, Oregon beers and they’re a dollar off during happy hour. Although they only offer Friday night discounts on food, smothered pulled pork jojos are a hearty and mouthwatering treat, as are the aptly titled (we’ll resist any innuendos) Mom’s Saucy Balls.


Daves is known for their dedication to meat-centric eats, from rockin’ Reubens to bomb pork-belly sandos, come prepared to leave with a plump food baby. And gluten free peeps, there are options for you, including the grilled GF wings, which are a special on Wednesday nights.

Their motto, “Serious food for not so serious people,” rings true, and you’ll usually see headband-wearing Dave checking in on guests and ringing up orders in the back. No frills needed here — just good food and libations — and that’s precisely the point.
