The Rotary Club of Sisters and the Sisters Kiwanis Club are teaming up on a Sleep in Heavenly Peace Bed Build adding a homemade quilt component to each of the 35 beds to be constructed on Saturday, February 14.
Sisters Rotary Bed Build Project Chair Hal Darcey said, “Our Rotary and Kiwanis organizations here in Sisters are joining together in the goal of making sure every kid in our community has a bed of their own.”
He continued, “Volunteering with SHP provides the opportunity to meet other wonderful volunteers within your community. Rubbing shoulders with complete strangers while building a bed for a child in need can turn into lifelong friendships as we are all focused on the same goal, helping children Sleep in Heavenly Peace.”
This is truly a community event. Up to 50 volunteers will assemble at the donated assembly site of Earthwood Development, LLC, in Sisters at 148 Sisters Park Drive. In addition, Sisters Rotary has secured the lumber and construction supplies from Tyler Hoyt of the Hoyt’s Hardware and Building Supply location in town with “very special pricing.”.
Kiwanian Jeff Taylor said, “Kiwanis Club of Sisters is proud to partner with Sisters Rotary Club for the bed building project. Our community is better when we all work together. As Sleep in Heavenly Peace says “no kid sleeps on the floor in our town!”
A quilt per bed operation is being coordinated by the two service clubs. Sisters Rotarian and local quilter Julie Fugate is the lead.
Fugate said, “So far, almost 20 quilts have been donated from quilters in central Oregon and more donations have come pouring in. Quilts are twin size (about 68″x82″) and are a wide variety of styles from modern to traditional.
If you’d like to participate, donate a quilt or get more information, contact Fugateat FinishFairyQuilting@Gmail.com.
The Rotary Club of Sisters is a non-profit organization of 37 community leaders. It is affiliated with the local, regional, and international service missions of Rotary International.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace operates on the vision that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional and mental support that a child needs.
