RootedHomes proudly announces the groundbreaking of Rooted at 19th, a new affordable housing community in Redmond. On September 27th, local leaders, including Commissioner Patti Adair, Mayor Ed Fitch, and Councilors Evelyn and Zwicker, joined to celebrate the construction start of 22 homes for families earning below 80% of the Area Median Income.

The two-acre site at 345 NW 19th Street holds deep local roots, having belonged to Janel, a businesswoman who raised her family on the property. During the groundbreaking, Janel brought the crowd to tears as she reflected on the many cherished memories her family created there. “Families will be able to share and create a community on these two acres,” she shared, expressing her hopes for the land’s future. Her vision was to preserve the property’s legacy by partnering with RootedHomes and the Environmental Center to create a place where future families could afford to put down roots and thrive.

RootedHomes is honored to bring this vision to life by building 22 sustainable homes, preserving the original farmhouse, and establishing a community garden. Denise Rowcroft from the Environmental Center shared her excitement about the project: “Wouldn’t it be cool if there was sustainable affordable housing that took place here, and we could also have a learning garden that both residents could access and students in nearby schools could access!” This garden, developed in partnership with the Environmental Center, will be a space for both residents and local students to learn and grow together.

In honoring this vision, RootedHomes will build 22 sustainable homes, preserve the original farmhouse, and establish a community garden in partnership with the Environmental Center, serving both residents and local schools.

Construction begins this fall, with homeowner selection in spring 2025. Information sessions for prospective applicants will be available this winter.
