This past Saturday marked the first show of Empty Space Orchestra’s December residency at Silver Moon.
Finding Oregon has been making its way around the various social media sites recently, and for good reason. Beautifully shot and set to dramatic instrumental music, the video short from Uncage the Soul Productions is another reminder of the many natural wonders found in the Beaver State.
With the holiday's seasonal celebrations underway police are on the look out for any signs of intoxicated driving. They got off to a busy start this past weekend.
Standing near a washed-out corner somewhere near mile 600 of the 692-mile desert off-road race, we were treated to a number of enthusiastic racers roosting through the sand en route to the finish line back in Ensenada.
Approximately 200 miles south of the border in the rugged Baja Peninsula, we were celebrating the upcoming marriage of a good buddy. On Saturday we took a break from our bachelor surf expedition to enjoy the scenes below.

After a couple days of surfing, we were plenty happy to drink some beers, play bocce ball and wait for the next racer to come blasting by. While there are plenty of popular viewing spots (mostly closer to town centers) packed with rabid race fans, we were in the middle of nowhere and these guys were stoked to see us. Our efforts were rewarded with lots of fist-pumps, waves, honks and special flashing lights.

Yeah, a few days have passed since MusicFestNW, the massive music festival that takes over nearly every venue in Portland, wrapped up, but that’s how long it’s taken me to wrap my head around the awesomeness that was this fest.
While it’s impossible to make it to even half of the shows on the slate, I did my best to bounce around and capture some video evidence and here’s just a sampling.
Last night, things were somewhat bittersweet at the Les Schwab Amphitheater. On one hand, it was the last show of what’s been a great summer in music at the LSA, and that’s a bummer.
I just got home a bit ago from a very sold-out appearance by The Shins at the Domino Room here in Bend and I’m pleased to say that this rehashed version of the band far exceeded my expectations.
In fact, James Mercer and crew — cheered on by an incredibly appreciative audience — looked to be in rare form with an hour-and-a-half-long set that included plenty of hits from the old days as well as a couple new tunes.
Remember last year when we devoted nearly an entire issue to beards, mustaches and the men who wear them? A year ago, Bend was hosting the Beard Team USA National Beard and Moustache Championships. And we definitely had beard fever.
