Joe Biden + Eight Gallons of Ketchup

Earlier this afternoon, Vice President Joe Biden was excessively photographed during a shopping spree at the grand opening of Washington DC’s first Costco. Co-founder of the discount chain, James D. Sinegal, is a major Obama contributor so I imagine that has something to do with Bidenโ€™s media heavy appearance. I’ll take all of these dogโ€ฆ

Of course their love child spawned Sasquatch, the loveable but elusive beastโ€ฆ

New Paint For Parrilla

Long ago, in a distant yesteryear, I had written off Parrilla Grill completely.

A finicky vegetarian, my initial visit left me turned off and confused by meaty-carb-loaded combos. Giant tortillas tried to disguise far-reaching fusion food as honest burritos. I watched with dismay as fettuccini alfredo was folded into (it’s true) a tortilla. And Iโ€ฆ

Not Your Grandma’s Gifts

Remember the popsicle-stick art you made in fourth grade? Yeah, and then your class sold the stuff for a 200 percent profit to adoring parents and grandparents? Maybe there were some cardboard bookmarks for sale, too. The two upcoming holiday bazaars we’re talking about here feature crafts, but not THOSE kinds of crafts.

Our Picks for 11/29 to 12/6

Monophonics thursday 29 Psychedelic mind-melt meets big band, meets laser lightshow, meets LSD-soaked awesomeness. Capell Breaks the Taboo

People who want to be mayor of Bend aren’t supposed let anybody know (publicly, at least) that they’re after the job. Traditionally, they’re supposed to sit with their hands demurely folded in their laps like wallflowers at a 6th-grade dance and wait to be chosen by their fellow city councilors. Councilor Mark Capell boldly brokeโ€ฆ

TAXPAYERS SWIPED AWAY AGAIN

I recently visited hundreds of homes to educate ordinary citizens on the horrors of SWIPE (Surface Water Improvement Plan Exposed) and to expose the politicians and bureaucrats responsible for the mess. I met a lot of terrific people along the way who don’t deserve atrocities like SWIPE, and they certainly have no way to payโ€ฆ

Longtime climber Larry Brumwell said he’s the poster boy for the economic recession. In 2010 Brumwell, the owner of Bend’s former climbing gym lost everything. “It was rough,” said Brumwell, in what could be the understatement of the year. In 1996 Brumwell opened Inclimb, a dusty rock gym that served as a second home toโ€ฆ

All of These Things Are Not Like the Others

Life of Pi Director Ang Lee hasn’t really racked up a lot of movies like some directors, but what he lacks in quantity he makes up for in quality. He has a meticulous style that’s fairly invisible as the movies seem to materialize organically in an original arty and stylistic way. This is mainly dueโ€ฆ
