A Helping Hand For Horses

We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you who donated items to the silent auction at Brasada for "Equestrians Helping Equestrians." A special thank you and note of appreciation to Sharon Morris-Reade and Kathy Gentry for their labor of love.

Where Are We Going?

I miss the days of hitchhiking – of being able to feel safe enough to pick up hitchhikers, as well as knowing that it was alright to stick out your thumb and get a ride. I miss what that all "represented.

Celebratory Destruction?

How do you celebrate when your city wins a major professional title? By destroying a small part of it, of course! And that's exactly what Lakers fans did in downtown Los Angeles Sunday night after Kobe and company dismissed the Magic in the fifth game of the NBA Finals. Store fronts were smashed, leading toโ€ฆ

A New Fungus Among Us?: A somewhat shocking discovery in Sisters

Habitat of (what could be) a new species of "mushroom" and close up of "fruiting bodies."With all this unseasonable rain we have been experiencing throughout Central Oregon, I thought it would be advantageous to go out in search of mushrooms. Just A Spark: inFamous gives a jolt to the genre

You ever see that movie called Powder?Power can make you blue. Consider Cole, the protagonist of inFamous. Going Mobile: Recession Pies takes brick-oven pizza on the road

a piece of the action.I have a heartfelt sympathy for young people starting out in these challenging times. I too was thrown into the work world during a recession and know the frustration of limited opportunities and chronic underemployment. Of course, I handled it the old fashioned way-the Gen-X, pre-Internet-boom way-and without hesitation or anyโ€ฆ

Rain, Rock and Rodeo

It was a bit of a wild week for Sound Check, given that we dodged thunderstorms, screaming cougars and bucking broncos and lived to write about it. We started the production cycle by charging through flooded streets to see Brandi Carlile and Gregory Alan Isakov play to a sold out Tower Theatre. We arrived inโ€ฆ

OLCC’s Blind Eye

You can subscribe to the agency's Twitter feed (Here comes an arbitrary fine, Tweet!) or its Blogspot blog where you can learn that 77 percent of Portland area businesses didn't sell to minors, or that 82 percent of Central Oregon merchantsโ€ฆ
