Numbers May Mean Bad News for Burley

The prolonged contest for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination has brought hundreds of thousands of new voters into the party's ranks. That could be bad news for Republicans seeking re-election in November - including, maybe, one Republican in Bend.

Lay Off the Park

As a longtime resident and active member of this community, I take offense at The Bulletin's attack on the Bend Metro Park and Recreation District. Once again The Bulletin is misguiding readers with inaccurate and misleading information. As a neighborhood representative, I attend 99% of park district meetings and have heard first-hand the plans forโ€ฆ

tSW Primary Primer: For President… Barack Obama

It will take an extraordinary president to heal the wounds inflicted upon America and the world by the disastrous George W. Bush regime. Both Democratic candidates say they can do the job. And both basically have the right ideas about how to do it.   But only one seems able to unite and inspire theโ€ฆ

They’re not for sale!: The thing about skinks…

About three days before my son, Caleb, turned (who is now grown with a son of his own) 16, we were zipping along Highway 26 between Sisters and Redmond, preparing him for his check ride with the Motor Vehicle Driving Examiner. As we passed the Cline Falls Airport I spotted two young boys standing nextโ€ฆ

the joke, unfortunately, is on us. Even though I expected little to no meat in this entree, I did hope for a sizeable helping of Cameron Diaz's comedic dazzle. She still manages to ignite her usual spark as the spunky party girl. Distinctly absent, though, are the laughs she so effortlessly generated in the wackyโ€ฆ

Whether you are a certified cork dork or just simply enjoy that glass of house red, you are sure to be satisfied. A Geared Up “Sangwhich”: Getting nuked at the Speedshop Deli

A glimpse of the New Look Blacksmith. When The Speedshop opened its doors, I was a bit confused. Was it a clothing shop? Moto paraphernalia? And where was I going to buy incense now that Ponderfusion had closed its doors? There was a “Deli” sign, but also T-shirts in the window. What is this place, Iโ€ฆ

Greg Brown

Greg Brown's got love in Central Oregon. Why? Well, to start, there's the sweet irony of the fact that he shares his name with one of Deschutes County's most colorful former sheriffs - convicted embezzler Greg Brown.

Summer in Iowa

You Me & Iowa

The Adventures of You Me & Iowa Scrimshaw Jazz Every summer must be accompanied by an album. I don't mean dopey reggae hits or girl-pop numbers repeating the word "summer" ad nauseam, but well-wrought tunes that taste good topped with sunshine while also serving as the soundtrack to the entire season.โ€ฆ

The Sawyer Dog Park

Dogs - you can love 'em, you can hate 'em or you can be indifferent to 'em, but whatever your feelings about Canis lupus familiaris, you have to admit that sometimes dogs and human activities don't mix.   The Bend Metro Park and Recreation District, hoping to make Bend a more "dog-friendly" place, wants toโ€ฆ

Leash ‘Em Up

Letter of the Week  It was sad to see in The Source last week that a group of Ultimate Frisbee enthusiasts might lose their traditional playing field in Sawyer Park to dogs. At one time, the issue of off-leash dog parks did not exist.
