Our Picks for the Week of 5/2-5/8

Brook Adams & His Swingin' Marmalukeys

friday 2

This acoustic band plays an amusing blend of "cowboy gypsy party music." And if you're wondering, yes, we were inclined to give them a pick due to their pleasantly old timey name. But hey, the tunes are pretty good as well. 8pm. $3. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 Greenwood Ave. 388-8331.

Intervision

saturday 3

Intervision is a five-piece pop and funk outfit with so much soul that it's hard to believe the band hails from somewhere not-so-funk-friendly like Portland. Last time they came, we made some comparisons to Maroon 5, which was probably a pretty lazy approach to classifying a band with mountains of talent like Intervision. Bring your dancing shoes, because you're going to need 'em when these guys start ripping it up. 9:30pm. $5. Summit Saloon and Stage. 125 NW Oregon Ave., 749-2240.

Cunninlynguists, Substantial, DJ Flip Flop, The Garden

saturday 3

You thought you spotted a dirty word there for a second, didn't you? Well, read carefully and notice that we're talking about a fabulously named Southern underground hip-hop act, so get your head out of the gutter, you pervert. Jeez, some people. There's some quality openers on the bill as well, including Bend's own The Garden. All ages. Tickets at Ranch Records and TicketsWest.com. Doors 8pm, showtime 9pm. $15, $12/advance. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration

monday 5

Celebrate all things Mexican, by heading over to the Summit for a night of music, food and drink. Let's see, what sort of beverage would go well with this celebration? Tequila, you say? Correct, amigo. 8pm. Free. Summit Saloon and Stage, 125 NW Oregon Ave., 749-2240.

Chippendales

monday 5

There's no Rescue Rangers attached to these Chippendales. It looks like "book club" is going to a go a little bit late into the night this month as the world famous and scantily clad dancers make an appearance in innocent ol' Bend. Ladies, enjoy yourselves. 8pm. Tickets at the door. Midtown Music Hall, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., 388-1106.

Minus the Bear, Portugal the Man, The Big Sleep

tuesday 6

Minus the Bear is pretty damn cool, but you probably want more proof, so flip a few pages to the right and read all about this futuristic-sounding rock and roll band. All ages. Advance tickets at Ranch Records and TicketsWest.com. Doors 7pm, showtime 8pm. $18, $16/advance. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Flowmotion

thursday 8

One of the main "Oh man, you totally missed out last night" shows of 2007 was Flowmotion at the Annex in November. A late arriving crowd steamed up the windows of the venue as the Seattle-based, instant party band raced from funk to soul to whisking soundscapes, lacing it all together with the tight-as-spandex rock fusion for which the band is becoming increasingly well known for up and down the West Coast. This time around, the 4 Peaks Music Festival crew is bringing the band to the more spacious OSC to give Bend another taste of what to expect at July's festival (where Flowmotion will play). 8pm, Old Stone Church, 157 NW Franklin.

KT Tunstall

thursday 8

Flip on over to the Sound section to read about this Scottish mega star and her acoustic performance at the Tower. Yup, that is, in fact, the same Tunstall from the radio. 7pm-10pm. $37.50 and $47.50. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St., 317-0700.
