Backporch Coffee Roasters and Thump Coffee are merging under a new parent company called TBC Coffee starting Jan. 1. In a letter to clients, Backporch Founder Dave Beach wrote, “I’ve been roasting coffee in Bend for a long time, and Backporch has grown one relationship at a time… Nothing about this merger changes the heart behind what we do.”
Backporch started in 2006 and has five locations in Bend and Redmond. Thump Coffee was founded in 2007 as 11 Roasters Coffee, opening its first cafe in 2009 as Thump. It has three Bend locations.
A statement on Thump’s website states that over the past few years, both teams have been growing and often on the same trail, building toward the same thing. The two coffee companies will maintain their individual brands but will share resources behind the scenes to become more efficient.
In his letter, Beach says, “What does change is the support behind the scenes. By joining forces we gain stronger buying power, a deeper roasting team, more stability, and a better foundation for the future.” In an email to the Source, he says he’s excited for the merger and will release more details about what it means for customers and employees in 2026.
